Who am I and what is my driving experience?
My driving school is based in Sandwich, in East Kent, not far from Canterbury. The vocational test centre I use is Gillingham LGV Driving Test Centre Gillingham LGV, Ambley Road, Gillingham, ME8 0SJ.
I passed my car driving test in 1984. I then added my full motorcycle category to my licence in 1992. In 1996 I qualified as a car driving instructor and am currently a Grade A instructor.
Although I already had the minibus (D1 category) on my licence, I wished to be able to train customers who wished to take their minibus test. To do this, I had to take and pass the D1 driving test, which I did in 2007.
To tow a large trailer with a minibus, drivers need the D1+E category. To train customers to pass this test, I needed to pass it myself, which I did in 2018.
My latest addition to my driving licence came in 2019 when I passed my C category (HGV Class 2) driving test.
Having gained these categories on my driving licence I am able to offer B Licence Training (Car), D1 Licence Training (Minibus) D1+E Licence Training (Minibus and Trailer). Although there is now no requirement to take a driving test to gain your B+E Licence (Car and Large Trailer), I offer training in all aspects of trailer towing and manoeuvring.
With regards to caravans, I have been involved with caravans since 1975 (with my parents) and have been towing my own caravan since 1989. I now offer caravan training and motorhome training for customers who do not need to pass a test but believe they would benefit from some professional training before driving these larger vehicle combinations.
I have been a Camping and Caravanning Club Instructor since 2014 and have experience of delivering the current Confidence Builder, Pitch and Progress, and Motorhome Courses at a variety of locations. I have worked for the club at the Caravan and Motorhome Shows at both the NEC Birmingham and Event City in Manchester offering customers the towing taster sessions run by the club.
